Foods That Heal

Warm beverages and chicken soup increase the flow of nasal secretions, helping to alleviate cold symptoms.  However, the best way to get the daily requirements of essential vitamins and minerals is to eat a well balanced diet that contains a wide variety of foods from the food pyramid guide.

Getting sick is a part of life.  If you do catch a cold or the flu, the following advice still holds true...

To get better while you are sick:

          Get plenty of rest

          Drink lots of fluids

Use a humidifier to moisten mucous membranes.

When you are sick, stay home to avoid infecting others.  If you do go out or are in school and need to cough or sneeze, use a tissue or cough or sneeze into your sleeve or upper arm, not your hand.  Remember, you use your hands for touching objects that others may use.

This information is NOT a substitute for a physician's advice.  If you are truly feeling awful, it is always wise to contact your physician.
